So today, the end of our week spent in beautiful Newfoundland (my first time on the island!) we had an unexpected day off… So we decided to drive up to St. John’s. We were told by a billet in Victoria that we should check out Signal Hill. Not knowing what it was really we decided to trust that suggestion and head out… SUCH A GOOD CHOICE!! Signal Hill is this place... it’s like huge tall rocks that just drop off many feet into… the OCEAN! It was so beautiful! We trekked down to the rocks edge and took a bunch of pictures. (The trek down didn’t feel so bad; up… well we definitely felt it!) My favorite thing was just sitting on the edge, feeling the sunshine on my back, the wind at my face and hearing the crashing of the waves against the rocks. I’ve seen the ocean before, but always from a beach. To sit up over top of it and just look out for miles and miles, the ocean is huge!! As I was sitting there, I just imagined all the crazy things that God’s created in the ocean. I mean, land alone is sweet – deserts, rain forest, mountains, people, plants, animals… it’s crazy to think that below that surface is an entire other world that goes unseen! And really, just the size of it is so incredible! A friend, who’s in Africa this year, was actually at a place recently that looked oh so similar to Signal Hill… big rock cliffs dropping into an endless ocean and I thought, how sweet is it that we’re looking at the same body of water? The ocean that I’m seeing is connected all the way to that in Africa! It’s so hard to wrap my mind around it. And I decided that Signal Hill is hands down, the most beautiful place I’ve ever been to in my entire life and when I told Jenn on the other team she texted back with “God thinks you’re more breathtaking than that ocean.” Talk about hard to wrap your mind around! It’s crazy that I can’t even understand the intensity of the ocean let alone the intensity of His love for me…
If you ever head to Newfoundland, go to Signal Hill! We were told later that had we gone about a month later the icebergs would have started floating down and we would've been able to see not only sweet, crazy icebergs but also a ton of whales!.. One day I'm going to go back and see that... that's awesome!
